Indian men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open badminton tournament after a hard-fought victory on Thursday.
Satwik and Chirag came from behind to defeat the seventh-seeded Indonesian duo of Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in three sets, 19-21, 21-16, 21-19, in a nail-biting match lasting 1 hour and 14 minutes.
The Indian duo will now face the second-seeded Malaysian team of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy and former world champion PV Sindhu suffered early exits from the tournament, ending their Singapore Open campaigns prematurely.
The focus now shifts to the remaining Indian contenders aiming to make deep runs in the prestigious event.
