Sanjay Takale Set to Make History as First Indian in Dakar Rally’s Car Category

Rally driver Sanjay Takale is poised to become the first Indian participant in the four-wheel section of the prestigious Dakar Rally, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia from January 3 to 17, 2025. This landmark achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian motorsport.

Takale, who made headlines as the first Indian to clinch the Asia Pacific Rally Championship title (APRC) in the production class, will be representing the French team Compagnie Saharienne. He has chosen the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ78 for his daring expedition into the Dakar Classic, a grueling challenge that spans over 14 days and covers more than 8,000 kilometers, including 5,000 kilometers across 12 treacherous special stages.

Expressing his excitement, Takale stated, “My goal is to simply experience the might of Dakar and have fun driving in the dunes. It is a long journey and will be a good learning experience.” His enthusiasm highlights the spirit of adventure that defines the Dakar Rally, known for its punishing terrains and demanding conditions.

With the Dakar Rally being one of the most formidable off-road events in the world, this participation not only showcases Takale’s driving prowess but also represents a significant step for Indian motorsport athletes on an international platform. As the countdown to the 2025 rally begins, motorsport enthusiasts across the country are rallying behind Takale, eager to support him in his historic endeavor.

As he prepares for the rally, Takale’s journey is expected to inspire a new generation of Indian motorsport enthusiasts and drivers, paving the way for future participation in elite global racing events.
