Researchers Explore Futuristic Solutions Like Atmospheric Water and Rain Energy

With climate change intensifying water scarcity through heatwaves and extreme weather, researchers are exploring unconventional solutions like atmospheric water generation and rain energy harnessing to secure freshwater resources.

On World Water Day (March 22), experts highlighted the need for innovative approaches in a country that holds just three percent of the world’s landmass but supports 18 percent of its population.

Dr. Visakh Vaikuntanathan, Assistant Professor at Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR, and his team are working on a groundbreaking concept of harnessing rain energy. Their research focuses on quantifying the energy contained in different rainfall intensities—light, medium, heavy, and extreme—to develop potential energy-harvesting technologies.

These futuristic ideas could provide sustainable water solutions and energy sources in regions facing severe water shortages. As climate change continues to impact global water resources, scientists are urging policymakers to consider unconventional strategies to ensure long-term water security.
