Randhir Singh Makes History as OCA President
Randhir Singh Elected as First Indian President of Olympic Council of Asia
NEW DELHI – Veteran sports administrator Randhir Singh made history on Sunday by becoming the first Indian to be elected as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). Singh was elected during the 44th General Assembly of the continental body held in New Delhi.
A five-time Olympic shooter, Randhir was the sole eligible candidate for the OCA president’s position, and his election was unanimous. His term will extend from 2024 to 2028.
At 77, Randhir has been serving as the acting president of the OCA since 2021, following the suspension of Kuwait’s Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah due to a 15-year ban from sports administration over ethics violations. Randhir’s new role marks a significant milestone for Indian representation in global sports governance.
