Raheel Strike Seals India’s Azlan Win

Raheel’s Early Strike Gives India 1–0 Win Over Korea in Azlan Shah Cup Opener

Mohammed Raheel scored the all-important goal as a second-string Indian hockey team defeated three-time champions South Korea 1–0 in their opening match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup on Sunday.

Returning to the prestigious tournament after six years, India struck in the 15th minute when Dilpreet Singh created a smart opening that Raheel converted, finishing off a well-constructed buildup. The Indian side controlled much of the midfield, with Abhishek and captain Sanjay—fresh off the Paris Olympic bronze-winning campaign—playing pivotal roles.

South Korea were forced into defensive mode for long periods as India launched repeated attacks from both wings. India earned an early penalty corner in the fourth minute, taken by Sanjay, but could not convert.

Despite several chances to widen the margin, the lone goal proved enough for India to start their campaign with a confidence-boosting victory.
