Quality Control Orders to Shield MSMEs from Unfair Competition, Says Goyal

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Saturday that the government’s quality control orders (QCOs) are designed to protect micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from unfair competition and curb the import of sub-standard goods.
Goyal explained that the QCOs, which set mandatory standards for various products, will help MSMEs by ensuring that imported goods meet specific quality requirements. This initiative aims to prevent the entry of inferior products that could undermine local businesses.
“We are providing MSMEs with the time needed to comply with the QCO requirements,” Goyal said. He emphasized that these measures are crucial for shielding the MSME sector from unfair competition posed by low-quality imports sold at irregular prices. The QCOs are part of the government’s broader effort to support and enhance the competitiveness of Indian MSMEs.
