Punjab Procures 111 Lakh Metric Tonnes of Wheat So Far

The Punjab government has procured 111 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat from the 114 LMT that has arrived in grain markets so far this procurement season, state Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said on Wednesday.

Out of the total procurement, 103 LMT has been purchased by government agencies, crossing the significant 100 LMT milestone. The remaining quantity has been procured by private buyers.

Minister Kataruchak also stated that the government has credited ₹22,815 crore directly into the accounts of farmers as payment for the procured wheat. So far, 6,28,674 farmers have participated in the procurement process by bringing their produce to the mandis across the state.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring timely procurement and prompt payments to farmers, highlighting the smooth functioning of the procurement system this season.
