Prime Minister Modi Meets Xi Jinping on Sidelines of 16th BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met with Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, on the margins of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan on Tuesday. The leaders discussed the recent agreement on complete disengagement and resolution of issues that arose in 2020 concerning the India-China border areas.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of managing differences and disputes to maintain peace and tranquility between the two nations. Both leaders agreed that the Special Representatives on the India-China boundary question would convene soon to oversee the management of peace and tranquility along the border and to seek a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary issue. They also highlighted the need to utilize relevant dialogue mechanisms at the Foreign Ministers’ level and other official channels to stabilize and rebuild bilateral relations.
The two leaders acknowledged that stable and amicable relations between India and China, as neighboring nations and the world’s two largest countries, are crucial for regional and global peace and prosperity. They reiterated the significance of progressing bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, enhancing strategic communication, and exploring cooperative avenues to address developmental challenges.
As both nations aim to foster a multi-polar Asia and a multi-polar world, this meeting marks a significant step toward strengthening ties and addressing outstanding issues between India and China.
