President Droupadi Murmu Honoured with ‘City Key of Honour’ in Lisbon

In a significant gesture celebrating strong diplomatic and cultural ties, President Droupadi Murmu was conferred with the prestigious ‘City Key of Honour’ by the Mayor of Lisbon at a special ceremony held at the City Hall on Monday evening.

The honour marks a symbolic recognition of the enduring relationship between India and Portugal, as the two nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties. The event was attended by dignitaries, members of the Indian diaspora, and officials from both countries.

Expressing her gratitude, President Murmu thanked the Mayor and the people of Lisbon for the warm reception. “Lisbon is a city of openness, where diversity is celebrated and cultures are embraced. I am deeply touched by this gesture and the friendship it represents,” she said in her address.

She also highlighted the shared historical and cultural connections between India and Portugal and emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships in areas such as trade, education, and technology.

The ‘City Key of Honour’ is among Lisbon’s highest recognitions, traditionally awarded to distinguished guests as a token of goodwill and mutual respect.

President Murmu’s visit to Portugal is part of her broader diplomatic outreach to enhance India’s global partnerships and reaffirm historical ties with key nations.
