President Murmu Highlights Integration of Vedic Wisdom and Modern Science at University of Patanjali Convocation
President of India Droupadi Murmu on Sunday graced the second convocation ceremony of the University of Patanjali in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, and lauded the institution’s efforts to blend India’s ancient knowledge traditions with modern scientific research.
Addressing students and faculty, the President said India’s great sages and thinkers have made invaluable contributions to human civilization. “Maharishi Patanjali removed impurities of the mind through yoga, of speech through grammar, and of the body through Ayurveda,” she remarked, adding that the university is making his timeless teachings accessible to society in a contemporary context.
She appreciated the University of Patanjali’s work in advancing education and research in yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy, calling it “an appreciable effort towards building a healthy India.”
Emphasizing the importance of an India-centered educational approach, President Murmu said the university’s focus on the spirit of universal brotherhood, integration of ancient Vedic wisdom with modern science, and addressing global challenges is “advancing the Indian knowledge tradition in modern contexts.”
The President urged graduating students to live in harmony with nature and be conscious of their responsibility towards the environment. “Protecting the environment and adapting our lifestyle to nature is essential for the future of humanity,” she said, expressing confidence that the graduates would rise to meet global challenges, including climate change.
Highlighting the Indian cultural ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world as one family—President Murmu said the wish for universal well-being is the hallmark of India’s culture and the foundation for harmony and inclusive development.
She further stated that individual development forms the foundation of nation-building. “Nurturing individuals leads to nurturing families, which leads to nurturing society and nation-building. The University of Patanjali has chosen this path through education,” the President said, urging students to contribute to building a healthy society and a developed India through righteous living and service.
