President Murmu Celebrates Odisha’s Contribution to Modern India on Statehood Day

On Odisha’s statehood day, President Droupadi Murmu extended her heartfelt greetings to the people of the state, marking the occasion of Utkala Dibasa, which celebrates the formation of Odisha as a separate province on April 1, 1936.

In her message, President Murmu highlighted Odisha’s significant contributions to India’s history, particularly in the freedom struggle. She acknowledged the state’s role in shaping modern India, stating, “Odisha has played an important role in the freedom struggle and produced several makers of modern India.”

She also praised Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and the remarkable contributions of its people across various fields. The President prayed for the peace and prosperity of Odisha, adding, “I pray to Mahaprabhu Jagannath for peace and prosperity of Odisha!”

The state, formerly known as Orissa, was officially renamed Odisha in 2011. Utkala Dibasa, celebrated every year on April 1, commemorates the formation of Odisha as a separate state based on linguistic identity.

Odisha Day celebrations include cultural programs, tributes to historical figures, and events honoring the state’s legacy and ongoing development.
