President of India Virtually Inaugurates Key Initiatives for OMFED by NDDB
New Delhi, January 13, 2025: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, virtually inaugurated and launched three crucial initiatives—Cow Induction, Giftmilk, and Market Support—for the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED), under the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The event took place today from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Addressing the occasion, the President emphasized the pivotal role of livestock in supporting the rural economy and household income, noting India’s vast and diverse livestock breeds. These breeds have been vital to the country’s rich agricultural heritage. Smt Murmu highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance breed development and genetic upgradation of livestock, which are integral to sustaining the sector’s growth.
The President also recognized India’s extraordinary achievements in the dairy sector, particularly in the past decade, with significant progress in milk productivity. These advancements, she noted, reflect the country’s commitment to excellence in animal husbandry. However, she also acknowledged that there is still substantial potential for improvement in animal health.
Appreciating the objectives of the National Gokul Mission, the President pointed out that focusing on both the quantity and health of livestock would significantly improve the quality of animal-derived products, especially milk. She urged that such efforts across the country will contribute to building a healthier India, advancing the country’s vision for sustainable development in the dairy sector.
