Sambalpur: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed Durgapali Railway Overbridge in Sambalpur, Odisha. The overbridge, built at a cost of over ₹60.43 crore, is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the region.
Addressing the gathering during the inauguration ceremony, Pradhan emphasized the importance of modern infrastructure in transforming Sambalpur into a smart and prosperous city. “This overbridge is a crucial step towards making Sambalpur more beautiful and modern with the combined efforts of the central and state governments. It will ensure safer and smoother movement for the public,” he said.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to the overall development of Sambalpur under the “Double Engine Government” model, promising improvements in key sectors such as roads, drinking water, health, and sanitation. Pradhan also announced ambitious infrastructure plans for the city, including the construction of a ring road, development of internal roads, and a new bridge over the Mahanadi River connecting Yaga Burla and Hirakud.
Highlighting Sambalpur’s rich cultural heritage, the Minister extended an invitation to people across the state and country to take part in the unique winter Sashti festival dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. He noted that such festivals not only preserve tradition but also strengthen community bonds.
With the inauguration of the Durgapali Railway Overbridge, Sambalpur is poised to witness enhanced urban mobility and infrastructure growth, aligning with the government’s vision of building well-connected and citizen-friendly cities.
