Potato Prices Rise in Odisha Due to Supply Restrictions

Potato Prices Surge in Odisha as West Bengal Imposes Supply Restrictions

Bhubaneswar: Potato prices in Odisha have witnessed a marginal increase in the last two days following supply restrictions imposed by West Bengal. Traders reported that hundreds of potato-laden trucks have been stranded near the Odisha-Bengal border due to the restriction on the movement of kitchen essentials.

Since Wednesday night, the trucks, which were en route to Odisha, have been unable to cross the inter-state boundary. As a result, many of these vehicles have been forced to return to their point of origin, with concerns over the potential spoilage of the produce.

The disruption in the supply chain has led to a rise in potato prices across several markets in Odisha, as traders face difficulties in sourcing the commodity. The price increase is expected to affect consumers, particularly in urban areas, where potatoes are a key kitchen staple.

Authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged both states to find a resolution to the issue to avoid further disruption in the supply of essential commodities.
