PM Modi Highlights Importance of Naming Andaman Islands After National Heroes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of naming islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago after national heroes, asserting that it ensures their service to the nation is remembered for generations.
In response to a post by journalist Shiv Aroor on social media platform X, the Prime Minister remarked, “This initiative is part of our broader effort to preserve and celebrate the memory of freedom fighters and eminent personalities who have made an indelible mark on our nation.”
The Prime Minister further stated, “Nations that stay connected with their roots progress in development and nation-building. Naming these islands is a way to inspire future generations while honoring our rich history.”
PM Modi also encouraged citizens to visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, particularly the historic Cellular Jail, to draw inspiration from the courage and sacrifices of Veer Savarkar and other freedom fighters.
The remarks come in the backdrop of the government’s efforts to honor India’s freedom fighters by embedding their legacies in the country’s geography and collective memory.
