Pest-Resistant Walnut and Fruit Tree Safety Holder Among Grassroots Innovations to Win HBNCRII Awards

A range of innovative grassroots inventions, including a pest-resistant walnut developed from a single 80-year-old mother plant, a manure spreader machine, and a mechanical safety holder designed to protect fruit trees from wind, rain, and fruit load, have been honored with the Honey Bee Network Creativity and Inclusive Innovation (India) Awards (HBNCRIIA) this year.

The awards, presented in partnership with Amazon India, aim to celebrate the ingenuity and creativity of individuals working at the grassroots level, highlighting innovations that contribute to making India more inclusive and innovative.

One of the standout winners, Suneel Singh from Jammu and Kashmir, took home the first prize for his creation, the Suneel (SI) Walnut variety. The walnut variety is known for its resistance to pests, making it a significant advancement in agricultural sustainability. These innovations reflect the power of local creativity to solve practical challenges, ensuring a more sustainable future for farming communities.

The HBNCRII Awards continue to showcase the vital role of grassroots inventors in shaping India’s innovative landscape, encouraging a broader and more inclusive approach to solving problems in rural and underdeveloped regions.
