Peshawar’s Historic Naz Cinema Demolished

Peshawar’s Historic 90-Year-Old Naz Cinema Demolished
The iconic Naz Cinema, a 90-year-old landmark in Peshawar, has been demolished due to declining cinema-goers and a shrinking movie culture in the region.
Originally established as Rose Cinema in 1936 by a Sikh entrepreneur, the theatre was a major entertainment hub before its owner migrated to India during Partition in 1947. It was later acquired by Jawad Raza’s grandfather, who renamed it Naz Cinema.
For decades, Naz Cinema was a cultural symbol in Peshawar, drawing audiences with its screenings. However, changing entertainment trends and reduced footfall ultimately led to its closure and demolition. The loss of this historic cinema marks the end of an era in Peshawar’s cinematic history.
