OMC Targets 50 Million Ton Output

OMC Targets Record 50 Million Ton Mineral Output in 2025-26

The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has set an ambitious target to produce 50 million tonnes of minerals in the financial year 2025-26, aiming to significantly boost the state’s mineral economy and resource utilization.

The decision was revealed on Wednesday following a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. During the meeting, officials of OMC presented a roadmap to scale up mineral production, focusing on improving operational efficiency and fast-tracking approvals.

Key issues were discussed at the meeting, including the extension of the lease period of various mining areas, the need for expedited environmental clearances, and the operationalisation of newly allotted mines. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of sustainable mining practices and directed officials to ensure that mining activities align with environmental and legal guidelines.

“The government is committed to maximizing the value of Odisha’s vast mineral resources in a sustainable and transparent manner. This target will contribute significantly to the state’s revenue and employment generation,” the Chief Minister stated.

OMC, a leading public sector undertaking under the Odisha government, has been a major contributor to the state’s mineral exports, producing iron ore, chrome ore, bauxite, and other key minerals. The 50 million tonne target marks a substantial jump from current production levels and reflects the government’s push for infrastructure growth and industrialization.

Officials noted that achieving this goal would require coordinated efforts across departments, particularly in terms of regulatory approvals, logistics development, and workforce planning.

With this aggressive production target, Odisha continues to reinforce its position as a key player in India’s mining sector while balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility.
