Odisha Govt to Preserve Birthplace of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has pledged to take all necessary steps to preserve and develop the birthplace of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das, a towering figure in the state’s history. Minister of Law, Works, and Excise Prithviraj Harichandan emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding the heritage of the legendary leader.
Chairing a review meeting on Friday, Harichandan highlighted the unparalleled contributions of Madhusudan Das in shaping Odisha’s identity—from advocating for the formation of an independent Utkal Pradesh to his active role in India’s freedom struggle.
“The preservation and development of Madhubabu’s birthplace and workplace are the primary responsibilities of the state government. We are committed to fulfilling this duty with utmost sincerity,” the Minister stated.
During the meeting, officials from various departments, district administration, and trusts discussed plans to develop key sites associated with Madhusudan Das. These include Entudishal (his birthplace), Madhu Kothi, Balipokhari, and his workplace.
Key initiatives proposed for the preservation project include the construction of a parking lot, a library, a multipurpose center, a scenic house, and a museum. Additionally, the government aims to protect all existing heritage sites in their original form to retain their historical significance.
Acknowledging the deep emotional and cultural connection people have with Madhubabu’s legacy, Harichandan directed officials to ensure that the restoration work preserves the essence of the era in which he lived. The government’s initiative seeks to not only maintain the heritage sites but also educate future generations about the life and achievements of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das.
