Odisha to Build Mahanadi Water Structures

Odisha Government to Build Four In-Stream Storage Structures on Mahanadi: CM Majhi

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced that the state government will construct four in-stream storage structures on the Mahanadi River in Subarnapur district to enhance water conservation and improve irrigation facilities in the region.

The announcement was made during the Chief Minister’s one-day visit to Subarnapur, where he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 56 development projects worth ₹323 crore. These initiatives aim to boost infrastructure and socio-economic growth in the district.

The proposed storage structures will be constructed at Godhaneshwar, Khairmal, Ulunda, and Surubali. Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Majhi said these in-stream storage structures will help ensure water availability for agriculture and drinking purposes throughout the year, benefiting farmers and local communities.

“The government is committed to strengthening water resources and agricultural infrastructure in western Odisha. These projects will support sustainable development and improve livelihoods,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister also interacted with the public and officials, reiterating his government’s focus on timely implementation of all developmental works and ensuring transparency in execution.
