Odisha on High Alert as Low Pressure Forms Over Bay of Bengal

The Odisha government has issued a warning to fishermen to stay ashore on August 16 and 17 due to the potential formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has advised precautionary measures in view of the developing weather conditions.

A cyclonic circulation persisting over South Bangladesh and adjacent Gangetic West Bengal has raised concerns. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts this system could intensify into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.

Under the influence of this system and strong monsoon currents, the state is expected to experience squally weather with wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 kmph over the North West Bay of Bengal on Friday and Saturday.

District administrations in coastal areas, including Ganjam, Puri, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore, have been alerted to remain vigilant and prepared to deal with any eventualities arising from the developing situation.

The SRC has urged fishermen to prioritize safety and avoid venturing into the sea until the weather conditions improve.
