Odisha Initiates Potato Procurement from Uttar Pradesh
In a strategic move to alleviate its reliance on West Bengal for potato supplies, the Odisha government has begun procuring potatoes from Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, the first consignment of potatoes from the northern state arrived in Odisha, marking the start of this new supply chain.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister KC Patra announced the commencement of the procurement, stating that this initiative is part of the state’s efforts to address and resolve the ongoing potato crisis. The state government aims to diversify its sources and stabilize potato availability for consumers in Odisha.
The introduction of Uttar Pradesh potatoes is expected to improve supply stability and reduce fluctuations in potato prices. The Odisha government is anticipating further shipments to meet the demand and mitigate any potential shortages.
This move reflects a proactive approach by the state administration to ensure a steady supply of essential commodities and to enhance food security for its residents.
