Odisha continues to reel under an intense heatwave as 17 places across the state recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Friday, with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest at a scorching 43°C.

According to a bulletin issued by the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, several other regions also witnessed extreme heat. Sambalpur recorded a maximum temperature of 41.6°C, while Hirakud, Bolangir, Titlagarh, and Boudh registered 41.2°C each.

The temperature in Sundargarh touched 41.1°C, whereas Dhenkanal and Angul recorded 40.9°C each. The coal-rich town of Talcher reported 40.8°C, followed by Sonepur, Paralakhemundi, and Bhawanipatna at 40.5°C. Rourkela, Chandbali, and Baripada also sizzled at 40.4°C.

The blistering heat has impacted daily life, forcing people to stay indoors during peak hours. Health authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

With no immediate relief in sight, the Meteorological Centre has warned that the heatwave conditions are likely to persist in the coming days. The government has urged people to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.

As Odisha battles rising temperatures, authorities remain on high alert to mitigate the impact of the ongoing heatwave.
