Odisha Govt Seeks Reports on Crop Damage from Unseasonal Rain
The Odisha government has directed district collectors to assess and report crop damage caused by unseasonal rainfall between December 20 and 22. The rain, triggered by a depression, affected several coastal and interior districts, leading to significant damage to standing crops.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, addressing the media on Sunday, stated that collectors in the affected districts must conduct a detailed evaluation of the damage.
“The government is committed to taking necessary steps to assist farmers impacted by the unseasonal rains,” Pujari assured. The reports from the collectors will help formulate compensation measures for affected farmers, he added.
The unseasonal rain has raised concerns among the farming community, as crops nearing harvest are reported to have been severely affected. The state administration has promised prompt action to mitigate the losses faced by farmers.
