Odisha Government to Invest Rs 6,152 Crore for Traffic Decongestion and Expansion of Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major move to ease traffic congestion and promote the expansion of Bhubaneswar, the Odisha government has announced an investment of Rs 6,152 crore. The decision was made during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday.

The development plan includes the construction of a 64-km inner ring road to help alleviate traffic woes in the city. Additionally, significant roadworks will be carried out, including the development of six-lane roads from Tamando to Paikrapur and from Dhauli to Tamando.

An outer ring road, spanning 148 km with six lanes and two service roads, has also been proposed to facilitate the city’s growth. Another major infrastructure project will be the construction of an elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan. Several other initiatives have been outlined, such as the Daya West Canal Road, which will stretch from Patia Station Chowk to Suanga Mouza, and the widening of Jatni Road from Sundarpada.

Plans are also underway to build three flyovers at Silpaal Chowk, Museum Chowk, and Sishubhavana Chowk, along with an underpass at AG Chowk. Additionally, work on various parallel and access roads is progressing, including the left parallel road from the Institute of Mathematics to Patharagadia and the right-access roads from Damana to Press Chowk, Kala Rahang to Barimund, and Kelucharan Park to Barimund.

While the Damana Chowk–Press Chowk road has been completed, the Sundarpada–Jatni Road and left parallel road are still under construction. The Chief Minister has urged officials to prepare detailed project reports for the remaining work and accelerate its implementation.

During the meeting, it was also shared that the first phase of the Grand Ring Road project, aimed at connecting the four corners of the state, is set to cover 287 km from Berhampur to Jajpur. This ambitious project will include four tunnels to improve connectivity further.

An additional Rs 214 crore has been allocated for the development of the Keonjhar Maa Tarini temple and the beautification of its surrounding areas. Chief Minister Majhi has directed that work on this be started immediately and completed within the designated timeframe.

Other infrastructure projects discussed included the Barbil Ring Road and development works for Bhubaneswar Unit-2 area. The meeting was attended by Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal, and senior engineers from the Works Department.

With these initiatives, the Odisha government aims to enhance the city’s infrastructure, promote smooth traffic flow, and support Bhubaneswar’s overall urban development.
