Odisha Government Forms Task Force to Establish Mega Steel Plant in Keonjhar
BHUBANESWAR: In a significant move aimed at boosting the industrial landscape of Odisha, the state government has announced the formation of a task force to set up a mega steel plant in Keonjhar, the home district of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The task force will be headed by the chief secretary, as per officials.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting where Chief Minister Majhi reviewed the current industrial scenario in the state. The establishment of a steel plant in Keonjhar is seen as a strategic move to harness the district’s abundant natural resources, including iron ore, power, and water.
“Despite Keonjhar’s rich endowment of raw materials, it has not yet seen the establishment of a steel plant. This task force will focus on bridging that gap, facilitating rapid industrial growth and employment generation in the region,” said a senior government official.
The task force will be responsible for overseeing the entire process, from land acquisition and infrastructure development to liaising with potential investors and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. This initiative is expected to attract significant investments and generate numerous employment opportunities, contributing to the economic development of Keonjhar and the state as a whole.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed optimism about the project, highlighting its potential to transform Keonjhar into a major industrial hub. “The establishment of a steel plant will not only utilize the district’s rich resources but also pave the way for comprehensive development, benefiting the local community and the state economy,” he said. The government’s proactive approach in setting up the task force underscores its commitment to fostering industrial growth and leveraging the state’s natural resources for sustainable development.
