Odisha Govt Approves HRA for Firefighters Staying in Barracks, Hikes Diet & Mobility Allowances

In a significant move to support the welfare of Fire and Emergency Service personnel, the Odisha government has announced the provision of House Rent Allowance (HRA) for firefighters staying in barracks and not provided with official residential accommodation.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department on Tuesday, firemen, havildars, and personnel of equivalent ranks in the Odisha Fire & Emergency Service will now be eligible for HRA, even if they reside in barracks. Previously, HRA was granted only to personnel staying in rented houses outside government accommodations.
In addition to the HRA provision, the state government has also increased the diet and mobility allowances for firefighters and officers, ensuring better financial support for their daily needs and operational requirements.
The decision comes as a step towards improving the working conditions and welfare of fire service personnel, who play a crucial role in emergency response and disaster management across the state.
The Odisha Fire & Emergency Service is known for its prompt action in fire incidents, rescue operations, and disaster relief efforts. This financial boost is expected to enhance their morale and efficiency in carrying out their duties.
Officials welcomed the decision, stating that it would help personnel manage their expenses better and improve their overall working conditions. The revised allowances are likely to be implemented with immediate effect.
