Odisha Collector Discovers Irregularities in Paddy Procurement Disguised as Farmer

In a surprise inspection, Bhadrak District Collector Dilip Routrai uncovered irregularities at a paddy procurement center in Odisha’s Dhamnagar block by disguising himself as a farmer.
Dressed in casual attire and wearing a face mask, Routrai parked his vehicle at a distance before walking into the Katasahi mandi on Saturday. His covert visit revealed discrepancies in the procurement process, prompting immediate action.
Speaking to reporters, the collector confirmed that a show-cause notice had been issued to the concerned officer. “During my visit, I observed irregularities in the procurement system. Necessary action will be taken against those responsible,” Routrai stated.
The surprise inspection highlights growing concerns over paddy procurement practices in the state. Farmers have often raised complaints about delayed payments and middlemen interference in procurement centers.
The Odisha government has been making efforts to streamline paddy procurement and ensure transparency in the process. Routrai’s initiative has been widely appreciated, with many hoping it leads to stricter enforcement and accountability in the system.
Further investigations are expected, and officials have been directed to ensure fair procurement practices in the district.
