Odisha CM Urges MCL to Prioritize Local Employment

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has called on Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, to prioritize the employment of local residents, given the state’s significant contribution of 20 percent to the country’s dry fuel production.

In a meeting with Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena on Wednesday, Majhi emphasized the importance of local job creation and urged MCL and other central public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the coal sector to align with this directive. The chief minister’s push for local employment comes as part of broader efforts to ensure that the benefits of the state’s rich coal resources directly support its residents.

Additionally, Majhi directed the relevant authorities to expedite the establishment of the Talcher Medical College in partnership with Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. The proposed medical college is intended to enhance healthcare facilities in the region and contribute to the overall development of the local community.

The meeting was attended by Coal India Chairman P.M. Prasad, top officials from Neyveli Lignite Corporation, and MCL. The discussions underscored a shared commitment to integrating local development and employment opportunities with the ongoing operations and expansions within the coal sector.
