Odisha CM Presents ₹2.90-Lakh Crore Budget for FY 2025-26, Focuses on Agriculture and Irrigation

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday presented the state’s budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, totaling ₹2.90 lakh crore, with a special emphasis on agriculture and irrigation.
Majhi, who also serves as the state’s finance minister, highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector, noting that nearly 48% of Odisha’s workforce depends on farming, and about 80% of the population resides in rural areas. To address the sector’s needs, the government allocated ₹37,838 crore for agriculture and allied sectors, marking a nearly 12% increase compared to the previous fiscal year.
“The allocation reflects our commitment to boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring sustainable growth in rural areas,” Majhi said while presenting the budget in the assembly.
The budget aims to provide greater support for the farm sector, enhance irrigation infrastructure, and improve rural livelihoods, all of which are central to Odisha’s economic progress.
The proposal is expected to bring long-term benefits to the agricultural community while driving overall growth in the state’s rural economy. More details on specific programs and allocations are anticipated in the coming weeks.
