Odisha CM, Ministers Assess Crop Damage Due to Unseasonal Rain; Assistance Promised to Farmers

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with his ministers, conducted field visits across three districts on Sunday to evaluate the extent of crop damage caused by unseasonal rainfall that struck the state from December 20. The CM assured affected farmers of timely assistance and support from the state government.

During his visit to Ganjam district, Majhi emphasized the significant impact of the unseasonal rains, particularly in coastal Odisha, where farmers have been grappling with extensive crop losses. To address the concerns of the farming community, he announced an extension of the deadline for submitting crop damage claims to Monday evening, allowing more time for affected farmers to file their grievances.

“The government stands firmly with the farmers in these difficult times. Necessary measures will be taken to ensure prompt compensation and recovery support,” the Chief Minister stated during a press briefing in Ganjam.

The unseasonal rain has caused widespread damage to paddy and other winter crops, leaving farmers in distress. The Odisha government has deployed teams across the affected districts to assess the damage and compile reports for immediate action.

Farmers and local representatives have welcomed the Chief Minister’s proactive approach and extension of the claim deadline, expressing hope for swift relief and financial assistance to mitigate their losses.

The state government is expected to release a detailed plan for compensation and relief after receiving the damage assessment reports.
