Odisha Braces for Another Wet Spell Starting Friday: IMD
Odisha is set to experience another round of heavy rainfall from Friday to Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). In a special weather bulletin released on Thursday, the IMD forecasted the formation of a new low-pressure area over coastal Bangladesh and nearby regions, which is expected to bring widespread showers to the state.
The IMD explained that an upper air cyclonic circulation currently located over southeast Bangladesh and surrounding areas is likely to evolve into a low-pressure system within the next 24 hours. This system is predicted to gradually move west-northwestward, with the potential to intensify into a depression over coastal West Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.
As a result, Odisha is expected to experience significant rainfall from September 13 to September 15, with the IMD cautioning that some regions may see heavy to very heavy downpours during this period.
The state government has alerted district administrations to stay prepared for any potential weather-related disruptions, particularly in vulnerable areas prone to waterlogging and flooding. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and stay updated on weather advisories over the coming days.
This upcoming wet spell follows a series of rain-bearing systems that have impacted the region in recent weeks, keeping meteorological conditions active in Odisha.
