Odisha Assembly Winter Session Adjourned Sine Die, 18 Days Ahead of Schedule
Bhubaneswar, Dec 9 : The Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly was adjourned sine die on Tuesday, concluding 18 working days ahead of its planned schedule. The session, which began on November 27, was originally slated to continue till December 29.
Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House after members unanimously approved a motion moved by Government Chief Whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan. The proposal received support from Sanatan Bijuli and Gouri Shankar Majhi. Presenting the motion, Pradhan said there was no urgent official business pending for discussion, making an early adjournment appropriate.
In his valedictory address, Chief Minister and Leader of the House Mohan Charan Majhi described the session as “historic.” He noted that President Droupadi Murmu’s address on the inaugural day was a significant moment, calling her speech an inspiration for shaping a “new Odisha.”
The Winter Session conducted 11 sittings during which the House passed the Supplementary Budget for 2025–26 and seven important bills. These included the Speaker and Deputy Speaker Salary and Allowances (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Salary, Allowances and Pension (Amendment) Bill 2025, and amendments to the Odisha Legislative Assembly Members’ Salary, Allowances and Pension Act, 1954.
In a unanimous decision, the Assembly also adopted a resolution to celebrate the 150th year of the national song Vande Mataram across Odisha throughout the year, marking a significant cultural milestone for the state.
