Odisha Assembly monsoon-session from Sept 18

Odisha Assembly Monsoon Session to Begin September 18

Bhubaneswar, Aug 21 : The fourth session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly will commence on September 18 and continue till September 25, the Assembly Secretariat announced on Thursday.

The short monsoon session will have only seven working days, with six days reserved for government business. September 19 has been earmarked for Private Members’ business, including the introduction of bills and resolutions.

Political observers anticipate a stormy session, with the Opposition—BJD and Congress—preparing to corner the ruling BJP government over several contentious issues. Key topics likely to dominate the debates include the recent incidents of self-immolation involving college and minor girls, rising atrocities against women, law and order concerns, the Polavaram project, the Mahanadi water dispute, farmer grievances over paddy procurement, and the proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

With both treasury benches and the Opposition set for a face-off, the monsoon session is expected to witness heated exchanges inside the House.
