Odisha allots land to Vedanta Aluminium

Odisha allots 1,447 acres to Vedanta Aluminium, boosts industrial growth
Bhubaneswar, Feb 2 : In a major push to industrial development, the Odisha government has allotted 1,447 acres of land to Vedanta Aluminium, strengthening the state’s position as a key hub for large-scale manufacturing and future expansion in the aluminium sector.
The land allotment letter was handed over to Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The move marks an important milestone in Odisha’s efforts to accelerate industrial growth and attract transformative investments.
According to company sources, the allotment coincides with the Chief Minister’s visit to western Odisha and reflects the state government’s commitment to fast-tracking major industrial projects while promoting balanced regional development beyond traditional growth centres.
Welcoming the decision, Vedanta Aluminium CEO Rajiv Kumar said the allotment represents a transformative step in India’s aluminium journey. He said the proposed expansion would generate employment, boost local enterprises, and help create a future-ready industrial ecosystem in Odisha.
“The timely land allotment by the state government has provided the clarity and momentum required at this critical stage. We appreciate the proactive support and are fully prepared to move into the next phase of development with renewed focus and speed,” Kumar said.
He added that the upcoming growth projects would strengthen Odisha’s industrial ecosystem by supporting large-scale manufacturing and unlocking downstream opportunities across multiple sectors.
With India’s aluminium demand projected to rise nearly six-fold to about 37 million tonnes per annum by FY2047, as per the Ministry of Mines’ Aluminium Vision Document (2025), Kumar said the project would play a crucial role in meeting future demand.
As aluminium consumption increases across electric mobility, renewable energy, infrastructure and defence manufacturing, such facilities will be vital to supporting India’s industrial transition, he added. The project also reinforces Vedanta’s long-standing commitment to building a sustainable and globally competitive aluminium manufacturing base in India.
