Odisha Adivasi Mela Concludes with Over Rs 4.22 Crore Business
Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: The State-Level Adivasi Mela 2026 concluded on Thursday after an eventful 11-day run, drawing more than 10 lakh visitors and generating business worth over Rs 4.22 crore, officials said.
The mela emerged as a vibrant platform for celebrating Odisha’s rich tribal heritage while significantly promoting tribal products, craftsmanship and livelihoods. Artisans, self-help groups and tribal entrepreneurs from across the state showcased a wide range of traditional handicrafts, artworks, forest-based products and indigenous cuisines.
Addressing the valedictory ceremony, ST & SC Development, Minority & Backward Classes Welfare Minister Nityananda Gond lauded the success of the event and reiterated the State Government’s commitment to holistic tribal development in coordination with the Central Government. He said the Adivasi Mela reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” vision by providing visibility and market access to tribal products, traditional huts (kudias) and indigenous craftsmanship.
The minister emphasised that true development goes beyond economic growth and must include preservation of tribal culture, identity and human values. He added that protection and promotion of tribal languages, traditions and cultural practices remain a key priority of the government.
Additional Secretary Surendra Kumar Meena said the Adivasi Mela is not merely a cultural festival but an important economic platform that connects tribal producers directly with consumers, thereby strengthening livelihoods and empowering local communities.
The valedictory evening also witnessed the release of the research journal Banaja and the unveiling of the annual souvenir Pahacha 2026 by the SC & ST Development Department Cultural Council.
Ten successful tribal farmers and skilled artisans were felicitated for their achievements. Awards were also presented to the best traditional tribal huts—Kutia Kondha Ghar, Juang Mand Ghar and Pahadia Kharia Ghar—and to three tribal micro-enterprises: Sunayana SHG, Sukanya SHG and Mahalaxmi Women’s Savings Committee.
Throughout the mela, visitors experienced immersive displays of tribal villages, haats, art and craft exhibitions, food courts, a special stall on the upcoming census, and a stall by the District Legal Services Authority, making the event a comprehensive and lively celebration of Odisha’s diverse tribal heritage.
