Nomination Filing Process Begins for Nuapada Assembly Bypoll in Odisha
The nomination filing process for the by-election to the Nuapada Assembly constituency in Odisha commenced on Monday with the formal issuance of a notification by the Election Commission. The bypoll was necessitated following the vacancy of the seat, and the electoral process has now officially begun.
Odisha’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R S Gopalan informed that candidates can submit their nomination papers from Monday until October 20, while scrutiny of the papers will be carried out on October 22. The final date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed for October 24.
While the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are yet to announce their candidates, the Congress has already declared Ghasiram Majhi as its nominee. Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das said Majhi will formally file his nomination papers on October 19.
Political activity in Nuapada is expected to intensify in the coming days as major parties gear up for the contest. The bypoll outcome will be crucial in gauging the political mood of western Odisha ahead of future electoral battles.
The Election Commission will soon release the detailed schedule for polling and counting, which are likely to be completed within the next few weeks.
