NDRF Puts 25 Teams on Standby in Odisha and West Bengal Ahead of Bay of Bengal Cyclone

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has positioned 25 teams in Odisha and West Bengal in preparation for a potential cyclonic storm forming over the Bay of Bengal. According to a government statement, the cyclone is expected to make landfall between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal on Thursday. Fourteen NDRF teams have been stationed in West Bengal, while eleven teams have been deployed in Odisha.
During a meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) on Monday, chaired by Cabinet Secretary T V Somanathan, officials discussed the state’s preparedness to manage the impending cyclone. Central forces, including the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard, are also on high alert, with additional rescue teams, ships, and aircraft ready to be deployed if necessary.
Both the chief secretaries of Odisha and West Bengal attended the meeting and briefed the NCMC on their respective states’ readiness for disaster response and relief efforts. Local authorities have begun issuing advisories, urging coastal residents to stay informed and take precautions as the storm intensifies over the next 48 hours.
