Meta India Apologizes for Zuckerberg’s Remark on India Elections; Nishikant Dubey Declares Issue ‘Closed’

New Delhi, January 16, 2025 – Meta India has issued an apology following comments made by its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, regarding the upcoming Indian elections. The statement, which was perceived as inappropriate by Indian lawmakers, sparked outrage, leading to demands for clarification and accountability.

Zuckerberg’s remark, made during a private company meeting, was seen by many as an overstep into the country’s political sphere. The controversy quickly escalated, with several political figures, including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey, calling for Meta to address the issue publicly.

In response, Meta India issued a formal apology, stating that Zuckerberg’s comments were taken out of context and were not intended to interfere in the electoral process. The company emphasized its commitment to respecting the political sovereignty of India and affirmed that it would continue to support democratic processes globally.

Following Meta’s apology, Nishikant Dubey addressed the media, declaring that the issue was now “closed” and that the apology had been accepted. He reiterated that India values foreign companies operating within its borders, but they must respect the nation’s laws and political environment.

This incident highlights the growing sensitivity surrounding foreign tech companies’ involvement in India’s political landscape, particularly ahead of a high-stakes election year.
