Mangrove Plantation Drive Launched in Odisha’s Coastal Districts
On Friday, a significant mangrove plantation drive took place in three coastal districts of Odisha, aimed at regenerating the region’s denuded coastal forest cover. This initiative was organized in celebration of the International Day for Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems.
The drive focused on planting mangroves in cyclone-vulnerable areas, reflecting increased efforts to restore and protect these critical ecosystems. The Reliance Foundation, along with its partner organizations, led the initiative, which included awareness campaigns targeted at youths and school children.
Mangrove ecosystems play a crucial role in providing livelihood security to coastal communities and enhancing ecological stability. They act as natural buffers against coastal erosion and storm surges, making their conservation vital for both environmental and economic reasons.
The plantation efforts mark a significant step towards bolstering the resilience of coastal regions in Odisha and addressing the impact of climate change and natural disasters. The drive is part of a broader strategy to ensure sustainable management and protection of mangrove forests in the state.
