Loco Pilot Averts Major Train Mishap in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A major accident was averted on Monday when the loco pilot of a goods train applied emergency brakes in time, preventing a severe mishap on the Koraput-Rayagada railway line.

According to sources from the East Coast Railway (ECoR), the incident occurred between Sikarpai and Balumaska stations near Kanjamjodi. A speeding ambulance, which was unauthorizedly crossing the railway track, was struck by the goods train. However, due to the alertness of the loco pilot, a more serious accident was prevented.

Fortunately, all patients and the driver had already exited the ambulance before the collision, and no injuries were reported, officials confirmed.

ECoR stated that the area had been securely fenced on November 3, 2024, but villagers had illegally removed the fencing, leading to unauthorized access. Taking serious note of the violation, the Railways have filed a case against the culprits.

Trespassing on railway tracks is a punishable offense and poses severe risks to life and property. The Railways have urged the public to follow safety norms and avoid illegal crossings to prevent such incidents in the future.
