KISS students to stage Shakespeare abroad

KISS students to perform Shakespeare in tribal languages at World Festival in Romania
Bhubaneswar, Feb 5 : In a remarkable cultural milestone, ten students from the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Odisha, will represent India at the World Shakespeare Festival in Romania by performing plays by William Shakespeare in the tribal languages of Odisha.
The students, drawn from diverse academic streams including PhD, undergraduate, postgraduate and BBA programmes, will participate in the prestigious international festival scheduled to be held in May at the University of Craiova, Romania.
At the global platform, the KISS team will present three Shakespearean plays translated and performed in their native tribal languages, showcasing India’s rich indigenous linguistic and cultural heritage. The students have already begun rehearsals and will stay in Romania for nearly two months for preparation and performances during the festival.
This marks a historic achievement, as it will be the first time students from any Indian educational institution perform Shakespeare’s works in tribal languages at an international forum.
Expressing happiness over the achievement, KIIT and KISS Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta congratulated the students for their selection. He said KISS students have consistently brought laurels to the nation and the state through their excellence in sports, academics and cultural activities at national and international levels.
Dr Samanta added that the cultural performances would provide the students with international exposure and recognition, describing the achievement as a moment of pride and joy for everyone associated with KISS.
