Union Minister Kishan Reddy Stresses Rail-Sea-Rail Mode for Coal Transportation

Bhubaneswar, January 22, 2025: Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy has highlighted the importance of adopting the Rail-Sea-Rail mode for coal transportation to strengthen logistics infrastructure and ensure a reliable coal supply. The minister emphasized this during a review meeting with Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) officials in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

Reddy urged the acceleration of key projects such as First Mile Connectivity (FMC), diversification initiatives, and the integration of IT and artificial intelligence into coal mining operations. He also stressed the importance of green energy projects to align with India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

The Union Minister called for prioritizing the reclamation and redevelopment of abandoned mines, ensuring the successful execution of mine closure activities. Additionally, he emphasized the need to enhance gender diversity in the coal industry and expedite the enrollment of contractual workers into the company’s corporate banking scheme to bolster employee welfare.

During the meeting, MCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Uday Anant Kaole presented a detailed overview of the company’s performance, outlining its achievements, challenges, and future strategies. Reddy lauded the ongoing progress made by MCL and commended the team for their dedication to ensuring energy security for the nation.

Expressing confidence in MCL’s efforts, the minister encouraged the company to continue working towards the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” in the coal sector. The meeting also focused on exploring innovative strategies to enhance MCL’s performance and address emerging challenges.

This review underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening coal logistics, promoting sustainability, and driving operational excellence in India’s coal sector.
