Javed Akhtar Responds Strongly to ‘Son of Gaddar’ Comment on Social Media
NEW DELHI: Esteemed screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar responded firmly to a social media user who called him “son of gaddar (traitor),” by highlighting his family’s long-standing contribution to India’s freedom movement since the Revolt of 1857.
Akhtar’s response came after the social media user criticized him over a post where Akhtar humorously commented on US President Joe Biden’s re-election chances. “I am a proud Indian citizen and till my last breath I will remain so, but I have one common fact with Joe Biden. Both of us have exactly equal chance of becoming the next president of the USA,” Akhtar wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
This remark prompted a derogatory response from the user, leading Akhtar to set the record straight about his family’s patriotic legacy. He stated that his family has been actively involved in India’s struggle for independence for generations, dating back to the Revolt of 1857.
Akhtar’s dignified rebuttal serves as a reminder of his family’s historical significance and unwavering commitment to India’s freedom, countering baseless accusations with pride and factual history.
The exchange has sparked widespread support for Akhtar, with many praising him for standing up against unfounded allegations and defending his family’s honor.
