Indian Women’s Hockey Team Clinches Asian Champions Trophy 2024 with Thrilling 1-0 Win Over China
Rajgir, November 20, 2024: The Indian Women’s Hockey Team emerged victorious in the Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Rajgir 2024, defeating China 1-0 in a gripping final at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium. With this win, India successfully defended their title, marking their third Asian Champions Trophy triumph.
The decisive moment came in the 31st minute when Deepika scored a brilliant reverse shot, giving India the lead that held till the end. The match was a tense, end-to-end affair, with both teams showcasing resilience and skill, but India’s robust defense ensured they emerged as champions.
A Game of Intensity and Strategy
The first half saw fierce competition, with both teams trading penalty corners and testing each other’s defenses. Indian goalkeeper Bichu Devi and her Chinese counterpart Surong Wu delivered stellar performances, denying multiple scoring opportunities. The game remained goalless at halftime.
India broke the deadlock seconds into the second half when Deepika capitalized on a penalty corner, finding the bottom right corner of the goal. Despite China’s relentless efforts in the final quarter, India’s defense stood firm, sealing the narrow yet momentous victory.
Celebrating the Champions
In recognition of their incredible achievement, Hockey India announced a reward of ₹3 Lakh each for the players and ₹1.5 Lakh each for the support staff. For the first time in the tournament’s history, the Asian Hockey Federation also declared financial rewards for podium finishers, with India receiving USD 10,000, China USD 7,000, and Japan USD 5,000.
Hockey India’s President hailed the team’s performance, saying, “The team’s grit, determination, and skill have made the nation proud once again. This victory is a testament to their hard work and passion for the game.”
