ICC Gives Ultimatum to PCB: Accept ‘Hybrid Model’ or Be Ousted from Champions Trophy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a stern warning to Pakistan, asking the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to accept the ‘Hybrid Model’ for next year’s Champions Trophy, or face exclusion from the event.

During an emergency ICC executive board meeting in Dubai on Friday, the board failed to reach a consensus after Pakistan stood firm against the proposed model. Despite security concerns over traveling to Pakistan, India has refused to participate there. The ‘Hybrid Model’ suggests that matches would be played in a neutral location while Pakistan still officially hosts the tournament.

Sources reveal that while many ICC members showed empathy for Pakistan’s situation, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi was advised to accept the ‘Hybrid’ model as the only feasible option to salvage the event. The meeting ended inconclusively, but the ICC has made it clear that the Champions Trophy will not proceed unless Pakistan agrees to the terms.

The situation remains tense as the February-March 2025 Champions Trophy draws near, with Pakistan’s participation in doubt unless a solution is reached.
