Hockey India League Returns After 8-Year Break
NEW DELHI, 14th June 2024: Hockey enthusiasts rejoice as the highly anticipated Hockey India League (HIL) is poised to make a comeback later this year, marking its return after an 8-year hiatus. The upcoming 2024-2025 edition of the league will feature 8 Men’s and 6 Women’s Teams, with registrations open for players until 30th June 2024.
In a historic move, this season will also introduce an exclusive Women’s HIL, running parallel to the men’s tournament, aimed at fostering and promoting women’s hockey in India. Hockey India’s initiative underscores a significant step towards expanding the talent pool and enhancing the stature of women’s hockey in the country.
Inviting participation on a global scale, Hockey India has extended invitations to players and support staff from the top 15 hockey-playing nations. The league is scheduled to be held within the FIH-sanctioned window from the last week of December 2024 to the first week of February 2025.
Dr. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India, expressed enthusiasm about the league’s return, emphasizing its role in providing a platform for Indian players to compete alongside international stars. Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh highlighted the league’s past contributions to Indian hockey and its potential to further elevate the sport’s standards nationwide.
