Historic Step: Odisha Gets More MBBS Seats

Odisha CM Thanks PM, Nadda for MBBS Seat Approval in Two Medical Colleges
Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda for approving admissions to 100 MBBS seats each in two newly established medical colleges of the state.
Starting from the academic year 2025–26, admissions will begin at Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College in Talcher and Phulbani Government Medical College in Kandhamal. The Chief Minister termed the approval a historic step that will boost opportunities in medical education and expand access to affordable healthcare in Odisha, particularly benefiting Talcher, Kandhamal, and surrounding regions.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also welcomed the decision, thanking the Prime Minister, Union Health Minister, CM Majhi, and Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling for their efforts. He emphasized that improving healthcare and medical education remains a top priority under the Prime Minister’s Purvodaya Mission.
Highlighting the role of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Pradhan informed that the PSU has invested over ₹1,600 crore in Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College. The facility, he said, will provide immense benefits to residents of Talcher, Angul, Kandhamal, and nearby districts, transforming healthcare in the region.
Pradhan further described the development as a shining example of the commitment of the “double-engine government” to strengthen healthcare and education in Odisha.
