Handloom Heritage Shines at 20th Toshali Swadeshi Mela Fashion Show

Bhubaneswar, Feb 23: The 20th Toshali Swadeshi Mela witnessed a vibrant celebration of Odisha’s rich handloom heritage as a spectacular Handloom Fashion Show captivated audiences with its unique blend of tradition and contemporary style.

Organised under the aegis of the Odisha Handloom, Textile and Handicrafts Department, the fashion show emerged as one of the key attractions of this year’s mela, showcasing the timeless elegance of indigenous weaves through modern interpretations.

The grand event paid tribute to nationally acclaimed, award-winning weavers including Bhakta Raj Meher, R.K. Meher, Bhikari Meher, Hari Sankar Meher, Uttam Meher and Arindra Meher. Their exceptional craftsmanship continues to uphold and promote Odisha’s centuries-old weaving traditions.

The runway came alive with iconic handloom weaves such as Kotpad and Ikat, presented in both traditional and contemporary silhouettes. From classic sarees to innovative fusion wear, each ensemble highlighted the versatility, sustainability and aesthetic appeal of Odisha’s handloom textiles.

Designers and contributors including Reemly, NIF, Sinjini, Layatmika, Priya Mohapatra, Artisan, Binay Munda and Weaver presented creative collections that reimagined traditional fabrics with a modern touch. Their designs reflected how heritage textiles can seamlessly align with global fashion trends while retaining their authentic identity.

The event received an enthusiastic response from the audience, with the evening turning into a celebration of art, culture and innovation. The Handloom Fashion Show not only added glamour to the Toshali Swadeshi Mela but also reinforced the State’s commitment to empowering weavers and promoting swadeshi craftsmanship on a larger platform.
