Gujarat Police Arrest Congress MLA Mevani’s Aide, AAP Leader for Sharing Fake Amit Shah Video

Ahmedabad: Gujarat police have taken swift action, apprehending a Congress leader and an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary for disseminating a deep fake video allegedly portraying Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The fabricated video falsely depicted Shah announcing the curtailment of reservation rights for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell confirmed the arrest of Satish Vansola, hailing from Palanpur in Banaskantha, and Rakesh Baria from Limkheda town in Dahod district. Vansola, identified as the Personal Assistant (PA) of Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani for six years, and Baria, serving as the AAP’s Dahod district president for four years, were apprehended following a preliminary probe.

The dissemination of the fake video, intended to mislead and create unrest, underscores the grave implications of misinformation in the digital age. Authorities emphasize the importance of verifying information before sharing, underscoring the need for responsible digital citizenship to curb the spread of false narratives and maintain social harmony.
